Blog Award...how fun is this?

My sweet friend and fellow mama blogger Thalassa over at Musings of a Kitchen Witch nominated me for this.

Apparently, I am supposed to list seven things that readers probably wouldn't know about me, followed by five other blogs that I love.

So, about me;

1) I'm an avid gardener(when I have soil). Some of my favorite memories growing up are of helping my mother in her flower garden, watching my grandfather prune his fruit trees and prep his vegetable garden for spring, and helping family friends sell lilies from their flower farm at the Salt Lake City farmer's market.

2) My favorite movie is Zhang Yimou's Hero.

3) One of my greatest mentors passed away earlier this year. I was privileged to study under Thomas Moore privately between 2001 and 2003. He was a phenomenal musician, excellent teacher, and wonderful role-model. He will be deeply missed.

4) Give me an Almond Joy bar, and I am yours forever. Other then a select handful of sweets, though, I prefer savory snacks, preferably with healthy protein.

5) Believe it or not, given the sorts of topics I mention on here, I don't do historical reenactment.  I do, however, help run a Steampunk group, The Innovative Society of Victorian Irregulars.

6) You will never see recipes for anything with bleu cheese on my site.  Sorry bleu lovers...I have a rather vicious penicillin allergy.  Even last summer, trying some delightful looking sheep's milk cheese at the local farmer's market, it got me!  I walked away with a numb tongue and throat, and headed straight for some benadryl.

7)  It's been a while since I had a favorite author.  Choosing one book is like choosing a favorite child!  However some of my most recent reads have been Atlas Shrugged Shrugged by Ayn Rand (a reread for me), Kawaii Bento Boxes: Cute and Convenient Japanese Meals on the GoHow to Drink by Victoria Moore, Nourish: Sustenance for Body and Soul by Holly Davis, The Island of Doctor Moreau by H.G. Wells, and most recently, The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) by Robert Jordan.

Five Blogs:

Before I put these, they are all food-minded.  If you are at all interested in pagan concepts, please take a look at the list Thalassa shared when she extended this blog award to me!

The Old Foodie  The highest praise I can possibly give is that this woman knows her stuff.  Every week day, rain or shine, she has another fascinating tidbit about old food practices, with a quote attached.  I can't even tell you the number of times I've been stumped, and found what I was looking for after doing a search on her blog.

Steampunk Cookery  Most likely sparked by the same debate on Brassgoggles that led to me making this post back in October, Steampunk Cookery is new but running strong.  Take a look at his links!  As a steampunk foodie, I couldn't be more thrilled.

Months of Edible Celebrations is just plain, girly, retro-fun delightful. If you like thumbing through retro cookbooks, you will find it very amusing.

The Art of Manliness No, I'm not a man, but I am the sort of woman who hates being inept at something she tries...second only to finding a "manly man" to do it for me.  Once a simple blog, this is now a full-fledged website, with many articles which are worth reading, male or female.  After taking a leap and discovering what a difference it made for my husband to go to a real, old-school barbershop to get his hair cut, I was hooked.  The best of old fashioned, gentlemanly behavior.

Cake Wrecks  is a classic.  I've worked in a bakery before...I was that girl up at 4:30am stuffing jelly into hot doughnuts while the manager got payed twice what I did to ice really crappy cakes.  Bitter?  Moi?  Never!  While the main humor lies in the horrible concoctions that have been snagged via cell phone at bakeries across the nation, I doubt I'm the only former bakery employee who sees it as using pictures to be what The Bitchy Waiter is to servers.
